On The BeachPosted by Jasp (Plymouth, United Kingdom) on 5 August 2007 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Back in 1957 when people were less worried about the person next door and more worried about Mutually Assured Destruction Nevil Shute wrote a book about a nuclear war in the Northern hemisphere which left people in Australia waiting for the radiation to come to them. A film was released in 1959, starring Gregory Peck as an American commander sailing an American submarine from Australia back to America, they spy San Francisco through the periscope, trying to see if anyone is left alive. For the moment, the world has become a safer place.
